Racial Diversity of India

India has been defined as a ‘Country of Caravans”. The country has seen the arrival of diverse groups, races and religious communities from the very beginning. Aborigines, Arabs, Chinese, Mediterraneans, Mongols and Aryans came to India and merged there. India is probably the only country in the world where you will experience such a diverse amalgamation of different kinds of people. Currently, India is home to about 1,166,079,217 people representing 17% of the world population.

There are 4 races of people living in India:

1) Australoids(Aborigines)

2) Dravidians(Mediterraneans)

3) Mongoloids

4) Indo Iranians(Aryans)

1) Australoids(Aborigines)

The Australoids in India are closely related to the Australian aborigines and Melanesians. These were the first waves of people who migrated to India 60,000 yrs ago. These people are generally of dark complexion with wavy hair, broad nose, and weak chins. The Australoids are seen all over India especially in the poor villages, slums, streets and forest hill tribal areas. They form 32% of the Indian population. Australoids have never been mixed or intermarried with other races of people in India because they were regarded as inferior and unattractive by the Dravidians, Indo Iranians and Mongoloids of India. Australoids are widely discriminated in India since they are at the bottom of the society according to the caste system and are considered ‘untouchables’ according to the Indian caste system.

 2) Dravidians(Mediterraneans)

These were the second group of people who migrated to India. Dravidians migrated to India from Eastern Mediterranean countries like Syria, Jordan and Asia Minor(Turkey) 5,000 yrs ago. These people range from pale to medium brown complexion with straight shiny hair, very big eyes, oval shaped faces and hooked semitic type noses. They form majority of the population of South India. Dravidians once were spread all over India but the Indo Iranians invaded India and pushed the Dravidians to the southern parts of India. Dravidians are genetically closer to Syrians and Turks.

3) Mongoloids:

The third group of people who migrated to India were the Mongoloids. Mongoloids migrated to India from China and Tibet roughly 4000 yrs ago. Generally, these are people with olive/yellowish complexion, sparse hair, oblique eyes and flat noses. Mongoloids are seen in the Eastern and North Eastern parts of India and they form only 3% of the Indian population.

4) Indo Iranians or Aryans:

Indo Iranians or Aryans were the last group of immigrants who migrated to India (NOTE: Since the term ‘Aryan’ is associated with Hitler’s false concept of blonde hair, blue eyes and white supremacy, it is not used by anthropologists anymore). The real ‘aryans’ are these group of Indo Iranian people living in North India, not the blonde haired blue eyed people as believed by Hitler. Indo Iranians were a group of nomads who originally left their homes in Central Asia, some 5000 yrs ago and migrated to Persia(Iran) and lived there for some centuries. Then, they migrated to India 3500 yrs ago. Indo Iranians invaded India and pushed most Dravidians to the southern parts of India and introduced caste system in India. Indo Iranians form majority of the population of North India. These people are characterized by their pale/fair complexion, narrow noses, long faces with prominent chins and have a variety of hair and eye colors. Central Indians(an ethnic group called Gujaratis) are a mix of Indo Iranians and Dravidians.

Little Known Facts About Natural Red Hair

Do you have natural red hair? If you do, then you may be Scottish or Irish. 13% of the population of Scotland are redheads, while 10% of Ireland are
“Carrot Tops”. If you’re an American, then you are among a mere 2% of the population. Read this informative article and learn some more little known facts about natural red hair that will probably amaze you!

Myths About Red Hair
No matter how rare natural red hair is, and how beautiful it can be too, men and women who possess this hair color have often been ridiculed down through the ages.

For example, when red-headed Queen Elizabeth I reigned over England in the late 1590’s, poet Edmund Spenser wrote “The Faerie Queene” in honor of her. After that, the Southwestern English began to believe in fairies. However, they were depicted as being impish and naughty. As a result, fairies were said to have red hair.

In early Germany, natural red hair was considered to be a sure sign that a woman was a witch. The Greeks believed that red heads became vampires when they died. And, according to a Russian adage, “There was never a saint with red hair”. Red hair has long been associated with flaming tempers, peculiarity, lying and red-hot sexuality.

Fewer Strands of Hair
On a lighter note- a little known fact about natural red hair is, that, red heads generally have less hair on their heads than blondes or brunettes. Adult Blondes have approximately 140,000 hairs; brunettes have 110,000, and red heads only grow about 90,000 hairs on their heads.

Skin Care Truths
Since red-headed people have the fairest of skin, they tend to sunburn more easily. They are also more susceptible to skin cancer and wrinkles. That’s why people with natural red hair need to protect their skin with moisturizers and sunblocks.
